Founding
History
Al-Haj, one of the oldest
name in trade and
commerce of Bangladesh, had its beginning in the early part of 1900. The
country was a part of British India. This region was mostly dependent on
agriculture, when Late Alhaj Ahmed Ali started construction business in the
Eastern part of the country. He built some of the longest railways tracks,
bridges and many roads in the Eastern part of the country. He became a very
renowned and a respected contractor in the construction business of that time.
He was a landlord and owned majority portion of Land of the Masimpur town in
Serajgonj district. He was Known for his philanthropic activity and was
recognized in Who's Who of Pakistan for his wide and generous contribution for
the underprivileged people of the country.
In the year 1930's
The Founder of this Group Late
Alhaj Musharrof Hossain joined his father's business. Soon he earned
considerable experience in the field of business and increased the volume of
business and diversified his efforts manifold in the sector of commerce and
industries. He then formed a group known as Alhaj Group of Industries.The newly formed group is proud to carry on
the history, traditions and prestige of the group and continue the challenging
quest for improvement of their business to the highest level.
By mid 1900 Late Alhaj Musharrof Hossain has
established a Jute mill, a Cotton Spinning mill and a Steel Re-rolling mill in
the eastern part of the country. He was the founder Managing Director of Quami
Jute Mills, Serajganj Cotton Spinning Mills and Alhaj Steel Mills. All these
mills were one of the largest units of the country set up by importing
machineries and equipments from Japan. Also Japanese technical assistance and
training were provided by the Japanese experts in Bangladesh for two to three years initially before commissioning
In 1959 he joined as a Director of the then East
Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (EPIDC), a government corporation
set up for the extension, improvement and development of industrial sector of
the country. It was a very prestigious position as an industrialist to join the
government institution for investment in Industrial Development Corporation of
East Pakistan. He was also founder President of Steel Mills Association. During
his term as the President he has introduced many new policies in the Steel
sector of the country notably allowing importation of large ships for the ship
breaking industry. Now in Bangladesh the ship breaking business has become one
of the major business in the World in this sector. He also established many
educational institutions, orphanages and charitable organizations in the
country.
Al-Haj Abdul Ali, Managing Director
Abdul Ali, Eldest Son of Late Al-Haj Musharrof Hossain. He did his School in
Pakistan and then graduated in Commerce from the University of Dhaka.
He has started his business since 1976. He has been
associated with developing various factories in the group. He has played key
role in the group to establish various new ventures and ideas in different
sector. He is very experience in the context of running a mills and factories
specially in a complex situation. He had been very successful in running the
factories of the group smoothly through various economic and political
adverse situation in the past. He is a renowned Industrial and Business
personality of the Country. He has made various contributions in the Industrial
policy of the country.
He has traveled widely in USA, Europe, Mid-East and
Far East for business purpose.
He is involved in many philanthropic activities in
the society. The group has many educational institution and orphanages for
underprivileged people of Bangladesh.
Mr. Khaled S. Ahmed, Director.
Khaled S. Ahmed, second son of Late Al-Haj
Musharrof Hossain. He appeared in O Level under the London University from
Dhaka, then he got admitted to High School in Arlington, Texas. After passing
from High School he received his BBA degree in Finance and Economics. Then he
has completed his MBA in Industrial Management from University of Texas at
Dallas, USA.
After completing his education he has joined the
family business and associated himself since 1985. He mainly looks after the
business development of the group and in charge of the foreign trade of the
group. He has been primarily involved in dealing with various foreign
organizations from different parts of the World. He maintains regular
communication with the foreign companies in connection with the related local
government departments. He has developed foreign related business in the group
in the field of Aviation and attended various Air shows in USA, London, Paris
and Singapore. He has therefore associated himself with many foreign companies
and participated in various government tender businesses in Bangladesh.
He has also participated and successfully completed
business in the Defense, Civil Aviation and in the flying Academy on behalf of
various foreign companies. He is the founder Secretary General of Bangladesh
Steel Producers Association. He has made various suggestions in the country's
import policy on steel, which has been incorporated in connection with the
import duty and tariff value of the steel products of our country.
He has traveled widely in USA, Canada, Europe and
in Asia in connection with business development. He is actively associated with
various social and cultural organizations.
Mr. Musleuddin Ahmed, Director.
Musleuddin Ahmed, third Son of Late Al-Haj
Musharrof Hossain. He completed his High School graduation from Arlington,
Texas then he completed his B.Sc with major in Mechanical and minor in
Industrial Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington, USA.
He has been joined the business of the group since
1989. As an engineer he looks after the technical side of the group. He often
visits the factory sites and discusses various matters relating to the factory
machineries and equipments. He has to often interact with the engineers of the
factories in regards to the improvement of the system. He has also taken an
active role to renders his services in the field of energy and power sector of
the group.
He joined and participated in many international
discussion and seminar in USA, Europe and Asia. Last June 1998 he was invited
to attend the National Petroleum Show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
He
is associated with many Social and Cultural Organizations of the country.
